Health and Social Care has historically been focused on face-to-face training, workshops and work book training. Although, there hasn’t been a universal framework designed for Learning and Development for the sector, many care workers will typically receive on the job training and complete a workbook which covers standards directly from The Care Certificate. There are a range of e-Learning courses for Health and Social Care that support these 15 standards, to help staff study them at their own pace.

Following the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been a shift between how learning has been delivered and how it’s been received as traditional methods of teaching and learning has adapted from face-to-face to a more digital approach. With this in mind, many Health and Social Care providers utilise learning technologies such as Learning Management Systems, known as an LMS, to provide this digital approach to their Learning and Development. This means, care workers can access and develop their own learning on a digital skills platform, without the need of traditional learning as required before.

What are the benefits of a Learning Platform?

A Learning Platform is better known as a Learning Management System or LMS. This can provide Health and Social Care organisations with a hybrid approach to their Learning and Development. This means including traditional methods of workshops, e-Learning and workbooks together on a platform to support a Blended Learning approach. The benefits are as follows:

  • Complete control through an Admin Centre
  • Learning Pathways for specific job titles and roles
  • Workshop Management
  • Powerful Compliance Reporting
  • External Integrations to help everything stay in one place
  • User Interface and User Experience
  • Support System
  • Accredited e-Learning Courses

What sort of Learning shall I expect to see within Health and Social care?

Often, in Health and Social Care, learning is an on-going part of a staff members role. All e-Learning courses for Health and Social Care should be designed to support new staff members and address refresher training on a required basis. This helps those that are just starting their careers or have worked within the sector for many years, you’ll be required to undertake induction training as well as annual refresher training to ensure you remain up-to-date with regulatory requirements. This will also reflect the company you work for and their Learning and Development Compliance.

Typically, these courses are in-line with the Care Certificate and include titles, such as:

  • Health and Safety
  • Fire Safety
  • Equality and Diversity
  • Infection Prevention and Control
  • Manual Handling
  • Food Hygiene and/or Food Safety Awareness
  • Safeguarding Adults and Children

These titles are often provided digitally within an LMS, where an organisation can assign relevant learning to their staff members without any hassle. This will allow the learner to complete their e-Learning on their own device, at any time. This helps empower learners to take ownership of their own development within an organisation.

To truly benefit from e-Learning courses and an LMS for your organisation, we recommend making a checklist of which CPD courses will suit your Health and Social Care organisation and upskill your staff. We also recommend creating a list of requirements you’ll need from your next LMS, this will help you identify which system is needed by your organisation. Once you have complied your list of requirements, My Learning Cloud offer a free, obligation free consultation to see if we can suit your organisation.
